Holbeck Urban Village

I have recently started to make a leap into the world of professional photography. To date I have photographed 1 wedding, 1 series of 'still life' photos (to meet a brief) and a weekend of event photographs. I have really enjoyed earning lots of cash taking pictures but must confess that it is a lot harder and more stressful than you might think. Fortunately I have worked for with some really great people who were very patient and understanding.

These are just two of the 600~ish pictures that I have taken as part of the Holbeck Urban Gardening weekend organised by Leeds city council.

These are four of my favourite Steve Gosling pin-hole camera photographs recently exhibited in Ilkley museum, near my house. The original images are about 1m by 1m ~ish and our very impressive. Taj

Just got back from a trip around India's golden triangle (Dehli, Agra and Jaipur). Bloody brilliant trip. Whilst I agree that this is a typical shot. I had to take it! Believe it or not this is a very difficult shot to get. The place is just so busy. I had to go back at sunrise to take this and even then lots of people got in the way.

The Taj is a photographers dream. It is constructed in such a way as to always be in proportion. For example, carvings at the top are bigger than carvings at the bottom. Hence when you stand in front of it carvings at the top seem to be the same size as the carvings right in front of you. This makes taking pictures of it (and post processing) very easy. I would recomend a trip there, and am currently planning my next visit for a few years time.

In The Days Still Left

This was taken on the north coast of Crete (Greece). I like to spend as much time here as possible during the summer. Whilst working on this picture it occurred to me that if I am ever in a "last wish" situation then swimming here will be it.

I took about 100 pictures over two evenings from the same spot (marked by a rock). When I got home i selected 16 and photo-merged them in photoshop. You are looking at the result.

I am reading a book by David Hockney at the moment where he suggests that lens were used in portraiture before chemical photography was invented. These lens allowed the subject (person) to be projected onto a canvas and traced by the painter / artist; the artists hand was in the camera painting the picture. Then along came chemical photography and artistic control (in the traditional sense) was lost and the new art of photography was born (1839~ish).

The age of chemical photography is over.
